10 Things You Need To Do Before Leaving On Vacation

My family and I are leaving for our annual road trip on Friday morning. As you might expect, things are a little chaotic as we are completing final preparations for being away from home for several weeks.
It’s always a little unnerving to considering being away for a while and if you’re like me…you worry about leaving your home. There are definitely things you need to remember to do before you leave to ensure that your homecoming will be a pleasant one!
- Lock all doors and windows.
- Unplug most electronic items. This includes the TV, stereo, and especially computers.
- Turn the water heater down to a low setting.
- Suspend your newspaper and mail delivery.
- Consider leaving a radio or some other noise going in the house that makes sound. This makes it seem like someone is home.
- Disconnect the garage door so that it cannot be operated from the outside.
- Unplug your washing machine hoses. These often break and the water damage would be considerable.
- Remove perishable food from the refrigerator.
- Pay your bills before you leave.
- Ask a neighbor to put out trashcans on garbage day.
Lists are my best friend when I am preparing for a vacation! I have a list with all of these items on it and I also have several other packing lists going right now too. Have I forgotten anything? Please let me know!
