Homemade Whole Wheat Bread

We are traveling as I write this.  I just have to tell you how difficult it is for my poor children when we are away from home and they are away from my homemade bread that they have grown accustomed to.  This is just one of those things that you don’t realize what you have until it’s gone I guess because when we are away from home and they are forced to eat other bread they have a really hard time with it.

With this said, I thought I would share my homemade whole wheat bread that my family loves so much.

Whole Wheat Bread

  • 2 1/2 cups warm water
  • 5 tsp yeast
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/3 cup oil
  • 3 teaspoons salt
  • 3 eggs
  • 2/3 cup gluten
  • Enough Whole Wheat flour to make a dough that is not sticky that can be kneaded

I make mine in my Kitchen Aid, but this can easily be made by hand.  Combine all ingredients and knead for several minutes.  Let rise until doubled.  Punch down and turn into three loaf pans.  Let rise again until nicely rounded in pans.  Bake for 25-30 minutes or until hollow sounding.  Turn out of pans after cooling for a few minutes.
