I know I just mentioned this in a post last week, but I received a few very encouraging comments to a post where I was talking about vacationing in the Outer Banks. Upon taking a closer look at this area, I am even more convinced that this area is almost the perfect vacation spot for my family. If anyone else has vacationed in this area, would you mind chiming in so that I can hear about your experiences? Thank you so much!

Winter is waning right? Are you ready for spring? I know I am! Even though my thoughts are turning away from cold weather and the bundling that goes with frigid temperatures, I always force myself to take one last look at the various winter accessories that people who live in my climate need to have. Why, you may wonder? Because this is the time of year that items like UGG boots go on sale! So, even though the last thing that I want to do is stomp around outside in boots, I won’t rule out buying a new pair right now if I can find a steal of a deal.

Honey has been a known healer for thousands of years. Even as recently as fifty years ago, honey was being used for its antibacterial properties in treating wounds. But then they discovered antibiotics like penicillin and honey’s medicinal abilities became lost somewhere.
Treatment with honey is called apitherapy. This involves replenishing energy, increasing physical stamina, and improving the immune system. Honey also has a calming effect on the mind and induces sleep. Honey helps indigestion and can improve cardiovascular disease and respiratory ailments. A thin coat of honey can even be applied to the skin to as an antibiotics for healing minor skin wounds and chapped lips.
Eating honey may have a positive effect on heart disease risks. Honey appears to have an impact on blood glucose, insulin, and lipid levels.
Scientists have now discovered that certain types of honey may prevent infection when applied to a wound. This is thought to be thanks to an enzyme in the honey that turns into hydrogen peroxide when combined with bodily fluids. This helps disinfect wounds and prevents infection.
Have I succeeded in motivating you to give honey a second glance? Not only does honey taste great, it has so many health benefits!

I am just old-fashioned enough to be stubbornly clinging to wearing a watch instead of switching over to using a cell phone or other electronic device for time keeping. I have been observing this trend over recent years and it actually makes me a little sad.
A good watch is not only a reliable time-piece, but it can say something about you. It can be a statement of style and can be a nice accessory to complete an outfit.
I found a site today as I was thinking about all of this. This site was nice to browse through because it was easily organized and finding the watch style and pricing that I was looking for was simple and fast. Their selection was extensive as well. After much consideration and looking, I narrowed it down to the Fendi watches and found this one that I really like:
So…now it’s your turn to weigh in. Are you sticking to a traditional watch for timekeeping or are you switching over to other ways to keep track of the time?

We are extremely careful about the television that we view and that we allow into our home. We feel that our home is our refuge from things that may be harmful or destroy peace and a lot of what could be viewed on television, unfortunately, fits into this description.
One option that we have explored, however, is DirecTV. With this service the user has control over what is available to watch and can block out that which they feel is inappropriate or unacceptable viewing.
I was looking at the various DirecTV specials and DirecTV offers that are available through this service. If you are looking for a service that gives you options and control then this may be something to research.

It’s been a long winter…even though it is still February, I’m looking for signs of spring. Here is a little list of the things I’ve been happy to notice about the waning winter and approaching spring.
- I haven’t seen a robin yet, but I’m looking!
- I have seen and heard several flocks of geese going over, so that is encouraging.
- I’m looking for crocuses too, but mine are not up yet.
- My 15 year old son insists on going outside in t-shirts even though it’s 20 degrees out, but I can’t take that as a sign of spring because he has hardly worn a coat all winter.
- The days are getting longer, which is a good sign.
Do you have more definitive signs where you live? If so, please share! I’ll live vicariously through you.

Teenage sons are great for a lot of things – in fact my two teenage sons are two of my very favorite people in the whole world.
They come in very handy too, whenever you find yourself facing a technical issue or problem. And let’s face it…these days it is becoming more and more difficult to avoid technical issues with just about everything. So…whenever I am facing a conundrum involving strange error messages or system memory issues or a lost password…I consult my in-house tech team.
Do you have a favorite tekkie in your life?
Even with a tough economy forcing many of us to tighten our belts and budgets, there’s no harm in window shopping for furniture online! In fact, this is something that I enjoy doing from time to time.
I find I always come away with a fresh idea or two to incorporate into my own home without spending a cent. Recently I was wandering from site to site looking at various living room furniture styles that are popular now. There really are some lovely furniture sets out there now.
Fairmont Designs is a nice place to wander around if you are so inclined!

Set aside quiet time for yourself every day.
It is not only beneficial, but necessary to take time every day to shut off the mind and force it to become calm and clear.
There are misconceptions about meditation. Meditation does not have to involve strange yoga positions and weird chanting. Meditation is simply giving yourself a time out to calm a busy mind.
Often people think that sleep is similar to meditation. Actually, it is not. When you are sleeping your mind continues to be active.
Try this simple method:
Sit in a comfortable position, close your eyes, and concentrate every thought on your breathing. Focus on your breath going in and out of your lungs and force yourself to stop all other thoughts.
When you first try this and you’re concentrating all your thinking on your breathing you will find that your mind wants to wander. It will be hard to keep your focus on your breathing. The mind doesn’t want to be quieted. This will give you a new awareness of how many different thoughts come into your mind that you are likely not even aware of.
When your mind drifts away from your breathing, shift your focus back to listening and feeling your breath going in and out of your lungs. The more you focus on only your breathing the calmer you will feel. Your breathing will slow down and your entire body will relax.
Set aside 10 minutes in the morning and 10 minutes in the evening to meditate. This time period can be increased as you get more comfortable with meditation.
Quickly you should feel the benefits of your meditation. You should feel less stress and a more attentive mind. Anxiety, depression, anger and fatigue will decrease and your mood will improve.
Meditation helps you to increase discipline over your mind. You will begin to have more control of your thoughts. Your mind will become clearer and you will notice details throughout the day that you never noticed before.

My family and I are tossing around some different ideas for a late winter getaway. It’s so cold where we live and about this time of the year the winter can get pretty hard to bear.
We go to the southwest every fall…and this year I have suggested somewhere east instead. I’m thinking Outer Banks, though I have yet to convince my husband. I was looking at Outer Banks rentals yesterday and I think we could really enjoy ourselves.
Have you been to this area? What did you like about it? What didn’t you like? I thank you for your input!
