A milestone for me the other day. I finally was able to slip my wedding ring back onto my finger again. The baby is three months old, and it’s taken all this time for my fingers to shrink back down again. Yuck. In the meantime, no I did not have to resort to wearing discount jewelry instead of my wedding ring. I switched my anniversary ring – a gift from my husband on our tenth anniversary – over to my left hand temporarily. Now all is back as it should be – a ring gracing each ring finger.
One day you’re slathering little gums with teething gel and you blink and it’s time to think about acne treatment creams. Why do the years march so inexorably fast? Maybe that’s part of the reason that parenting has stretched into such a long-term task for me. I’ve been raising babies for almost a quarter of a century! That is hard to write, let alone believe. In about two months, my oldest child will be 24 years old. I was yet a teen when she was born so I started early…but this has been…quite a journey.
My poor daughter…she’s 13 and so far teenagedom has not been kind. No matter what she tries, she seems to be continually plagued with a persistent case of breakouts…forehead, cheeks, chin…so far no neck acne but stay tuned – we’re not through this yet. First daughter never had these problems and somehow it was different with two teenage sons. A girl with skin problems – not so nice.
Anyway…what works for you? Any natural remedies you know of? I’d really love to hear about them, if you care to share.
Breastfeeding and weight loss do not go hand-in-hand for me. It seems that my body wants to hang onto baby weight in order to make milk. It’s okay…I’ve accepted that this is just the way it is for me and I don’t fight it anymore. I expect it…knowing that weight loss pills that work are not for me right now. Not that I could even take them now during breastfeeding, but you get the point.
Create natural sleep aids for babies…can you imagine what a hot commodity this would be?
As the mother of a baby who doesn’t do a whole lot of sleeping…well, I’d pay money for that!
Trust me, I’ve tried everything I can think of to get this little one to take a decent nap and it just doesn’t seem to be in the cards. She sleeps at night pretty decently…so I guess this is just the way it is for now. Trying to get used to it and keep my house running as smoothly as I can in the interim.
This too shall pass…before I know it she’ll be five and learning how to read!
I choose natural remedies as much as possible. Are there natural cures for herpes ? I’m not sure… If I had herpes, I’d be finding out though.
Did you know you can cure pink eye with breast milk? Breast milk has natural antiseptic properties in it…you can also treat ear infections with breast milk. I like to wonder about the natural cures we don’t even know about yet…very amazing!
Is it craziness and chaos? Or do you slide into a new day appreciating the blank slate you have before you?
I have a small challenge for you…rise 15 minutes earlier to enable you to experience brief peace and prepare yourself for the day ahead of you.
Use your extra 15 minutes to sit in peace…over a cup of tea or coffee or whatever…and mentally get yourself in a great place to start the day. If you’re a praying person, you could use this time for that…or simply meditate.
When you finish…you’ll be 15 minutes shorter on sleep but that 15 minutes can do wonders for the day stretching in front of you.
I’m in the midst of a time crisis and I am not enjoying it. As anyone who has ever had a baby can attest, they certainly consume a lot of time and energy. I think I have forgotten how to manage myself and my time when I have a wee one in the house. Because my next oldest child is four, I was able to grow accustomed to a more relaxed lifestyle and now I am starting over again. To think…I even sported aspirations of writing a book! No need for any VeloBind binding services for me…we are in bare minimum mode around my house for the foreseeable future.
What a glorious fall day! Warm sunshine, clear blue skies, vivid colors…everything I love!
I went out to our local apple orchard today and picked up 2 gallons of fresh cider, a jar of apple butter and two pie pumpkins…no receipt printer needed…the sweet older lady manning the cash box adds up your purchases in her head…
I made a cherry pie for dessert tonight and we will also have sweet potatoes for the first time this autumn.
Autumn’s splendor equals good eatin’!
We are game lovers in my family. Since we try to avoid television to some extent and look for alternative ways to spend time together, board games are one thing we spend a lot of time doing. As soon as children become readers in our household, they quickly move up to active game-players, participating with everyone else in rousing games during the evenings.
I was recently happy to receive a game to review. The game is called:
You’ve Been Sentenced!
This game combines several key aspects of a successful game, in my opinion. Not only is it exciting and enjoyable, it is educational as well. I love it when my kids can learn while they have fun.
Recently, we sat down to see what this game had in store for us.
Each player receives ten cards and then must build a grammatically correct sentence using as many cards as possible. The first player who finishes building a sentence starts a sand-timer and then the remaining players have until the sand runs out to finish their own sentences. After the sentences are finished, the judging portion of the game begins. Players can “object” to other players’ sentences on the grounds that the sentences do not make sense or are not grammatically correct. If a player’s sentence is challenged, he or she must then defend it. After each sentence is judged, it’s time to score — some words are worth more points than others.
Play additional rounds and the first player to reach 200 points is the winner.
I have children in a wide range of ages so playing some games can be a challenge. This game was fun for us because we buddied up with some of the younger children and I think everyone learned something.
I expect this game to be a favorite this winter as we while away the chilly evenings.
Think you’d enjoy this game too? Leave me a comment telling me so…If I have more than one comment, I’ll randomly pick a winner and you can receive this game yourself. Post a comment between now and October 21, 2010. Due to high demand, the company will ship the game as soon as the next game shipment arrives.
