Dieting on the Brain

I seem to be a bit preoccupied today, eh? Yeah…when you start watching your diet a certain tunnel vision seems to take over. Now, I’m not much into things like ephedra diet pills…preferring to take a more natural approach, especially because I’m breastfeeding. Maybe the diet pill approach works for you, I’m sure you research quite a bit to find the one that suits you. There’s a lot out there to choose from…Take your time and choose the diet pill that fits you and your lifestyle.

Dieting Mindset

You who diet…you probably know what I’m talking about when I say “dieting mindset.” Do you find that when you start a new diet it typically takes about a week before you start to hit your stride? In the very first days of a diet, I’m not accustomed to the mindset that you need to have for success. But after a short time, I some stronger willpower takes hold and I grab that vision that helps me stay strong and on course. I don’t need the most effective diet pills when I concentrate on eating healthily and making smart food choices that will give me the energy and strength to get through my days. What about you?

Weight Loss

I’m happy to say that I’ve finally started to take off some of the baby weight in the past two weeks. Not sure what finally jump started me…but I’m just glad to see some movement in the scale — in the right direction. Now, I need to remember that I’m still breastfeeding my seven-month-old…so nothing drastic or crazy for me while I’m still her primary food source. This also eliminates things like sensa …which wouldn’t be safe while breastfeeding…but, I don’t need to go crazy. Slow and steady will work for me.

Teenage Poetry

I had an interesting trip back in time a few weeks ago. When I was a teenager, I dabbled extensively with writing poetry. I used to pour my heart and soul out into prose and filled notebooks with these tortured words. My dad happened upon a few of my old poems as he was cleaning out a basement bookshelf. My mom scanned them into the computer and emailed them to me. Oh…my…what a trip back. My poor tortured teenage heart was there lying bare in those words. I could hardly stand it…all these years later! Not something I would ever need to find Velo binding to share with the world…but it was quite a trip back in time for me. Boy am I glad I’m not a teenager anymore!

Real Estate

My husband holds a real estate broker’s license…that he no longer uses. In our region of the country, the bottom dropped out of the real estate market several years ago and he lost his ability to make a living selling houses.

I have no idea what it’s like in the San Diego housing market, but I suspect it’s better than it is in the Midwest.

I know the economy in Southern California is suffering quite a bit — as most places around the country seem to be. It can be so discouraging and frustrating to be either a home buyer or a home seller in this kind of housing market. Not to mention a real estate broker, by the way. They have suffered as well, as I know from first hand experience.

Taking Time Off

When you work at home, as I do, the lines often blur in an unhealthy way. My computer is my livelihood, the way I earn a living. It’s not just the way that I shop or search for things like xpi myotein, it’s my tool for writing. It’s always sitting there on my desk, calling me and reminding me of all of the things I have hanging over my head. I can work at any time of the day or night…which can be a blessing and a curse. Although, this flexibility frees me to do things I want to do, it also enslaves me, if I let it.

One of my continual struggles is being a nice boss…to myself. Giving myself a day off from work is something that I never thought I would have a hard time doing.

Daylight Increasing

Have you noticed how much later the sun is setting already? Almost through February and we are eating supper in daylight. What progress! Don’t even need to turn on the pendant lighting quite yet by the time we’re done with the supper dishes. It’s so nice when we get to add the minutes of daylight back onto the days again. Soon daylight savings will start again and we’ll be really rolling along!

Starting Tomatoes

I have baby tomatoes! Yes…we started our tomato seeds a few weeks ago and we have a couple of trays of various little tomato seedlings poking out of the peat pots. So exciting! We’ve turned the grow light on now and the little guys are basking in artificial light for about 12 to 16 hours each day. If they were human, they would surely need to look for the best indoor tanning lotion or they’d be getting sunburned…LOL.

Have you started seeds yet? Do you plan to? What will you plant?

Fix the Blotches

If you find your skin tone looks uneven and blotchy, with areas of lighter and darker skin, don’t suffer with spots — fix them. It could be heredity or maybe your lifestyle is wreaking havoc on your skin — sun worshippers beware of the blotch. When your skin needs help and you want to get darker areas of skin lighter, try various techniques to even things out and get back your smooth and sexy skin.

Measure out 1 tsp. powdered milk and lemon juice, 1 tsp. honey and 1/2 tsp. almond oil into a tiny bowl. Stir everything up and scoop it up onto your fingers. Gently slather this creamy stuff over your skin where you want to even out the tone. Leave it on for 15 minutes and then rinse it off with warm water. Repeat this star treatment until you see the results you want.

Peel an orange and reserve the peels. Let them sit in a warm spot for a few days until they dry out. Place the orange peels into the food grinder and process them to make a coarse powder. Add enough lemon curd to the ground orange peels to make a paste. Smear on the paste where you want to even your tone and leave it on for about 15 minutes. Rinse your skin well and repeat this natural lightening treatment once or twice a week.

Be diligent with the sunscreen, applying it every day over your dark areas. The last thing you need is more sun here.

Drink at least eight tall glasses of water every day to keep flushing your system. Try to eat a diet filled with fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and low-fat proteins to help make your skin bright and healthy looking.

Let’s watch Flip that House

Thanks for the post from Margie Kline

My favorite show on tv is Flip that house. There is nothing better than watching a crew go in and estimate how much money it will cost to make the subject beautiful. The best part about the whole ordeal is sometimes the plan works and sometimes it doesn’t. I watch this on the HGTV channel on my direct star tv. My favorite episodes are with Montelongo family because on top of the house decisions that are being made the family dynamics between Armondo and his wife and others are often times down right hysterical. He clearly knows how to buy a house for the right price and get a decent return on it after all the renovations are done. It is almost a comfort to me to see the difficulty he has with contractors and sub-contractors because it reminds us all that even though this is tv it is still very real. It’s amazing the amount of workers on that show that are late getting to work or don’t show up at all and they know they are being televised. In the end the houses are always a big improvement and for that alone the communities that they are in should be grateful.
