Thankful for BIG Blessings

My daughter and her family recently suffered a car accident where their van was totaled and her entire family walked away uninjured. Let me tell you…this is the kind of thing that makes you get down on your knees and tearfully thank God for His mercy. Watching them work their way through the maze of insurance quotes and trying to decide what they were going to do with their totaled van has been quite an experience. In the end, they decided to take a settlement, buy the van back and get it fixed. After a long few weeks, they finally got their van back on Friday and they are now back to a two-car family again.

Security Cameras

As I was shopping today, my eye caught a sign informing customers about security cameras that the shopping center was using to record customer activities. Got me to thinking…how do I feel about this? How do you feel about this? Does it seem like a privacy invasion…or a necessarily evil…or both? I admit that the thought of shoplifters raising everybody’s bottom line and creating inflated prices just to help a store recoup losses makes me angry. So…I guess security cameras are something to accept and ignore…as long as you are a law-abiding citizen.

Freebies

Businesses that give away promotional items to advertise their business name and service are banking on the fact that you are going to appreciate their freebies so much that you will become a customer. Sometimes this works with me and sometimes it doesn’t. It depends on how impressed I am with the freebie and, frankly, what the business or service is. Now…another pen, not so impressive. But…a tote bag with a business name on it or a cooler or a mousepad…I might be more impressed.

What kind of promotional items impress you enough to patronize a business?

Interesting Advertisements

I landed on a website with some interesting pictures today. The premise was advertisements that makes you look twice. I did not see any insurance advertising photographs, but I did see some doozies. Let me share some of my favorites with you…I think you might like them too.

australia-postIsn’t this one cool? The message is to send someone a letter if you really want to touch someone. This one spoke to me particularly strongly, because I am a strong proponent of old-fashioned letter writing. I can appreciate the new techie twist to this old fashioned form of communication, and I liked this.

denver-waterThis one is for Denver Water. “Use Only What You Need”…this one particularly spoke to me also, as I believe in conservation. I also just though it plain cute!

mmWhat can I say? This one was just too cute not to include!

Difficult Job Market

I work from home and have done so for all of my married life (20 years next month). Over these two decades, my work has varied quite significantly and right now it involves computer work over the internet. The schedule is flexible and it pays well so I am very happy with the opportunities I’ve been able to find to earn an income.

I can’t imagine having to enter the job market as a professional outside the home. Times have changed significantly since I voluntarily removed myself from the job sector. I’d imagine it’s as difficult wading through the pa job listings as it is anywhere in the nation right now. Again…another reason I feel very blessed and fortunate.

Drug Rehab

I have never personally known anyone who has entered drug rehab. I know…how sheltered am I, right? Even so, I have the utmost respect for anyone who has the courage to seek that kind of healing and that level of change. If I had a friend or a family member who needed support as they went through this kind of huge step, you can bet I would be there. When you begin to read a little bit about drug abuse online, it is startling how complex and devastating addictions can be.

New York Jobs?

I can’t imagine having to find a job in this economic climate. The idea of having to find New York jobs seems undaunting and scary. I suppose there are some out there who are seeking the excitement and challenge of a career in New York. Perhaps in another lifetime this might be me, too. I am far too sheltered to consider anything as exciting as this, though.

Furnishing a Motorhome

Sometimes I project ahead to a vague plan that involves a motorhome and some time on the road (without kids). Traveling with kids has its drawbacks…but if we were to take to the road in a motorhome “just the two of us” it would be a whole different story. I would enjoy decorating and furnishing a motorhome. Choosing some muted colors and placing just the essentials into the limited space would be a challenge and a fun project. We have a few years before we are empty nesters…but this is a thought.

Hand Dryers

I understand the concept behind hand dryers in public restrooms…really I do…I just wish those contraptions didn’t have to be so LOUD! They never fail to frighten my three and five year old kids whenever we have to use one in a public restroom. They are caught between trying to cover their ears with their hands and drying those same hands under the warm air. Doesn’t work very well. I imagine those hand dryers are even quite a bit louder if you are short like they are…

Moms of Boys…Sigh

As the mother of four boys, I hope I never have need of the services of someone like this Pleasanton motorcycle accident attorney. I’m sure he’s a learned and proficient attorney who serves his clients well…but the thought of one of my precious boys riding a motorcycle is enough to strike fear into this mother’s heart. So far, so good. One has his driver’s license thus far and shows no signs of interest in motorcycles. It’s actually my second oldest that would not surprise me if he decided that motorcycles are for him, though. He’s just about ready to get his driver’s permit…so we shall see.
