America’s Legal System

I don’t live in California and I live a quiet life in the Midwest, so I don’t have a lot of personal experience with California criminal lawyers, but I imagine there are many people living on the West Coast who do.

If you find yourself on the wrong side of the law, you may be wondering how to hire a Los Angeles criminal defense lawyer . I imagine you don’t have a lot of room for mistakes, so hiring the best lawyer you can afford will be important for your defense. These are the professionals who have the knowledge and expertise to help minimize your troubles and get you back on the right track.

Our legal system gives everyone a fair shot — innocent until proven guilty and trial by peers, right? Sure, it can be easy to have strong opinions about our legal system and all its foibles from the comfort of your home. I’m quite sure that if you ever find yourself navigating this legal system, you’ll be thankful for the constitutional rights our founding fathers made sure we have. No, it’s not perfect…but Americans are a lot better off than people in many other countries and we should try to remember this often.

Doodle Lately?

Done any interesting doodling lately? You know, when you’re talking on the phone with a pencil and paper in front of you and one thing leads to another…pretty soon you’ve filled half a page with an unplanned, impromptu work of art!

As it turns out, doodling can have therapeutic benefits. Not only does it stretch your imagination and encourage you to think creatively, it can be a peaceful escape from stress.

You can choose to follow the rules…or not. Here are some suggestions:

  1. Put pencil to paper and make a closed loop. Strive for a never-ending shape without openings.
  2. Go back and fill the areas with different patterns and shading techniques. You can even add handwriting, geometric patterns or cartoon pictures.
  3. Increase the size of the shape to fill the whole page.
  4. Never erase — even if you make what you think is a mistake, try to build it into the design.
  5. Go back and add color with color pencils.

Blog is Back!

Wow…computers and technology are all well and fine when they work, but when they don’t work, it can be so frustrating! About a week and a half ago, my oldest son and I were experimenting with some files on my webhost and we inadvertently deleted all of my websites! What a nightmare!

Now, after untold expense and hassle, I am still minus one website, but all of my other sites are back up again.

I did learn several things throughout this experience.

1. BACK UP! I can’t say this enough…BACK UP! Twice a month…AT LEAST!

2. Stay in good touch with my techie friend who saved my butt AGAIN! He’s a whiz and I don’t know what I’d do without my good friend Magnus!

I have now switched webhosts and I anticipate smooth sailing. Welcome back dear readers…it’s so good to be back!

Moving While Expecting a Baby

Written by my friend Betty Walls

What were we thinking?!? I honestly think my husband and I had a moment of insanity. Here I am seven months pregnant and we decide we want to move into a new home. In our heads, it sounded like a good idea: bigger house for the new baby with plenty of room for any future babies. While that might look good on paper, my advice is to not follow my example. First off, it is impossible to pack boxes when you are that pregnant. Second, on top of making all the baby decisions, you are making house decisions. I am at Babies ‘R Us ordering a car seat and also at http://www.texaselectricityproviders.com/ signing up for new power service. I had so many checklists that I made a binder out of them. I honestly thought I was going to lose my mind. It was a very crazy time and I don’t think I would ever choose to do it again. However, now my husband and I are parents to the most beautiful baby girl. She is worth every headache I have ever and will ever have. I am lucky to have her and I don’t think I would change any of it.

LEED for Green

The economy is such a bust right now. How about something encouraging!

Ever heard of LEED? LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. This is a special building certification program for constructing green buildings. Any commercial or residential building can be made using green construction, using an comprehensive rating system.

Sound interesting? I know! Well then, perhaps you could take a course for LEED online and become a LEED® Accredited Professional. Anyone in the real estate or construction business should really think seriously about doing this to make themselves more marketable in the industry. Even if you don’t work in the industry, if you’re just passionate about all things green, give this some consideration!

I’m talking about CleanEdison’s LEED® Green Associate program where you take a course and then take an exam for accreditation into the LEED program. If you take the crash course, you can prepare for the exam in only a day! You’ll learn about the credit rating system, review general guidelines for that system and you’ll even get some tips and tricks for passing the test!

This could be just what you need to get your career in the green industry started!

Charleston Real Estate

One part of the country I have not explored much is the deep south. I’ve always had an interest and fascination with the southern states and I would love the opportunity to visit this area — especially in the spring.

Maybe if I visited, I wouldn’t want to return to this cold tundra where I live!

Anyway, I’m sure that the Charleston homes are a sight to see. With the antebellum architecture and old southern style, I can’t help but assume that the beauty of the homes would be enough to make me look for a realtor to help me buy!

Of course, I’d have to contact Online Charleston Real Estate for help. This residential real estate company offers both listings and tools for helping someone search the Charleston area via the internet. Very useful!

This company also staffs knowledgeable and experienced brokers and salespeople who can help with the house hunting and purchasing process.

Of course, this is probably just a pipe dream for me, but maybe someone else can make their dream come true. If relocating to Charleston, make sure you use a real estate company who can make the transition easy.
