We talk every now and then about gutting our upstairs and putting in a new tub and surround. We don’t have a lot of extra room in that …not sure if it could handle something like one of those walk in tubs…but that would be nice. I would like a comfortable place to soak at night where the kids couldn’t get to me once in a while. I envision light, airy colors and lots of green plants and candles. Sounds just about perfect to me.

How are the outdoor safety conditions around your home and property? Do you have adequate lighting that will come on when you need it? Do you have lighting that will shine brightly to deter intruders? I ask because I was just reading something interesting about outdoor light fixtures and how important and instrumental they are in deterring residential crime and keeping people safe on their property. This is something that is easy to overlook…but having it there when you need it is so valuable.

We have one fixture out on the side of our garage that I think needs to be replaced. It has never shown directly and effectively to light up this area well.

Other than this, I feel reasonable confident that we are well-lit outside and deterring prowlers from sneaking around where we don’t want them. This means ‘coons in my compost bin, too!

34469343I was just looking at my side porch the other day and wondering if I want to spruce it up a little bit this winter. I have a wicker furniture set out there, a piece of carpeting on the wood floor, some Americana decor here and there on the walls and on the tables, and all-in-all it is a very nice and attractive summer room. The only thing I was thinking it could use was perhaps some outdoor curtains. Shopping for this kind of thing online is an easy thing to do at shop.com.

I took my three year old for a walk yesterday around our neighborhood. We live in an older area…the houses are all about 100 years old and there are no to speak of. This means that every home is full of character…and this includes the outdoor decor as well. Have you been for a walk with a three year old lately? These walks are definitely “stop and smell the roses” types of walks.

We had to stop at almost every house…and this gave me plenty of time to notice some things that I might not normally notice. Things like…bird baths and garden accents and outdoor entertaining collections. I have discovered that my neighbors have great taste! The outdoor decor that I saw made me want to go shopping! There are some really attractive items available out there now to decorate the outdoor areas of a home.

Although, I typically detest remodeling due to the upheaval and mess, my husband and I have been discussing our main lately.

There are a number of bathroom accessories that we would both like to update and upgrade in our . It’s funny, because my husband usually has a much harder time letting go of money than I do…yet he is the one this time that continues to think about how much he would like to our . He’s even been looking around at various ideal standard bathrooms to get an idea of what we might like to replace and choose for our .

Kudos showers are one brand of shower that he was looking at the other day. It’s a lot to think about, though. And like I said, I am not a fan of remodeling…but the other side of a new sounds so nice! It might just be worth it…

I admit I have a rather discriminating eye when it comes to home and garden decor. I really appreciate high quality items both inside and outside my home. This is especially true of anything that is connected with “curb appeal.” You know…the things that visitors see quickly and automatically when approaching one’s home. I like my home to be inviting and attractive to people who are seeing it as they approach.

One thing that I feel is very important to spend time considering is a mailbox. There are many mailboxes to choose from, but I definitely prefer something that is custom painted.
