Housecleaning Schedule
How organized is your housecleaning operation? Do you fly by the seat of your pants, doing the things that grab you as you see they need doing or are you more structured about it?
The way you clean your house depends on a few things. Your family size will definitely dictate how much time it takes to maintain your home. Your family’s lifestyle also plays a part. A family whose members leave the home all day for work and school will not need to spend as much time cleaning as those who use their home all day by staying home (hello homeschoolers! I’m talking to you!). Your desired level of cleanliness also factors in here — do you need to be able to eat off the floor? Or, can you deal with a little clutter and dust? One last factor is TIME. How much time do you have to spend on your house? The time issue can be solved if you split up chores amongst all the family members.
If you’re thinking a housecleaning schedule might work for your family, give it a go. Here’s an easy way to start:
- Get a calendar with boxes you can write in.
- Write down your major house cleaning events — like cleaning the basement and the refrigerator — in the boxes. These might be bimonthly or monthly tasks.
- Make a list of your daily and weekly chores and note how much time each chore takes and how often you do them.
- Now plug your daily, weekly and monthly cleaning tasks into the calendar. Suddenly it becomes organized and manageable!
- Keep your calendar in a central spot where the whole family can use it. You could even assign the tasks to family members by color coding them, if you want.
